An insight of what its like to live and golf in Tenerife

Tony Roma’s House Of Ribs, Playa De Las Americas, Tenerife

Ambiance: this is Americana-land; you could go be in a Tony Romas just about anywhere and it would look more or less the same. However, as it’s a chain with an out-of-the-box fit-out, the standard annd comfort levels are good and it’s well maintained. It’s a shame the view is of the Conquistador (an unforgiving concrete block), but the surroundings generally are quite nice and it’s location is a little quieter perhaps than others in Las Americas. I like the location because it’s a little bit more out-of-the-way and there’s almost always on-street parking somewhere around there at night.

Service: excellent and apalling and everything in-between. It varies depending on who’s working there, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen the same member of staff twice. However, ultimately it’s an American Diner style joint so let’s face it, it’s hardly going to be attentive silver service! The staff are easy to have a joke with, and usually pleased to have someone that will laugh with them.

Food: the experience, again, is much like a Tony Roma’s anywhere in the world. It’s formula food; however it’s possible to get even this wrong, and I have eaten there on a night when they did. I suppose there’s always a chance there’s a newbie in the kitchen! For what it is – and let’s be blunt, it’s out-of-the-vacuum-pack Tex-Mex – it’s not too bad. The onion-ring loaf is a treat for two, and of the meat dishes, I’d recommend the Original Baby-Backs. It’s edible, reasonably tasty, and will pump you full of sugar so everyone has a gooood time – assuming your kids don’t get toomuch sugar! The big disappointment is, of course, the coleslaw. Why is it that coleslaw in this style of restaurant looks and tastes like it was made last week in a diswasher? Just don’t serve it, please. The meat dishes appear to be better than the burgers, though your milage may vary. I’ve never had a dessert here – just couldn’t bring myself to eat that much food!

Overall: if you need a carb fix, it’s not bad. It’s not too expensive, but not cheap, the chairs are comfy, it’s a good place to go when you want to focus on friends and not on the food.
