Restaurant Tiroler Alm :   Puerto de la Cruz

Located just a stone’s throw down the street from the entrance to the Hotel Botanico on the main Carretera Botanico road in and out of Puerto de la Cruz is the Restaurant Tiroler Alm, owned and run for over 25 years by Teresa from Tirol , known for her German and Austrian cooking. p3142923-tiroler-facade

Generous portions of typical dishes such as eisbein (pork knuckle), rouladen, wiener schnitzel (the best I’ve ever found), come accompanied by gravy, sauerkraut, sautéd potatoes (bratkartoffeln), boiled potatoes, chips or German potato salad.   tiroler-collage-3-pepper-steak Desserts recommended are Teresa’s Apple Strudel, Palatschinken (Austrian crêpe with apricot jam), Kaiserschmarrn (Austrian souffled pancake with raisins). The cosy family atmosphere is enhanced by a rustic decor with wooden beams, comfortable booths and cloth covered tables. There’s also a roomy patio for outdoor dining. Service is fast and family groups or special event dinners are welcomed and served efficiently. eisbein-388x300 There’s a seniors’ menu with half portions of main dishes, some having a price as low as 3 and 4 Euros. Daily specials are noted outside on their chalkboard but other dishes from the extensive menu appear on your table with surprising speed.

We dined today for €13.50 total for two, which included smoked trout with horse radish, potatoes and salad €5, chicken breast & salad €4.50, 1 each of beer, glass red wine, 1/2 liter water.

Her prices have been kept low and are very good value for money. Opening times: 12 noon to 3 pm and 6 to 10 pm Closed all day Thursdays and Lunchtime Fridays. Smoking is permitted inside the restaurant.

Telephone: 922 38 24 70 Spanish, German and some English spoken. Highly recommended.
